The medical field is experiencing a strong wind of digital transformation.


The traditional healthcare system, which relied on manpower and budget within hospitals, has already reached its limits. In this environment, digital transformation is no longer an option but a necessity. As proof of this, various university hospitals and medical institutions are actively adopting smart ward management systems, patient management systems, and other solutions beyond traditional Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems. Leading the way in this change is Samsung Seoul Hospital, which achieved the highest score this year in the Digital Health Indicator (DHI), a self-diagnostic tool by HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) that measures and verifies the digital healthcare maturity of medical institutions.

Medipal, a software company specializing in aftercare services (CEO Kang Jong-il), has successfully secured a Series A investment of 5 billion won. Medipal's solution, AfterDoc, provides aftercare solutions that help hospitals and clinics transition digitally and enhance connectivity with returning patients. Through the AfterDoc platform, hospitals and clinics offer services such as post-appointment prescription compliance checks, regular monitoring of patient health status, everyday health management consulting, and reservation management based on appropriate treatment cycles. AfterDoc is currently recognized as the most comprehensive digital healthcare solution tailored to the domestic market environment.

Technological development for smart hospitals and patient management solutions is also active. Viva Innovation Co., Ltd. (CEO Park Han) has developed a solution that predicts diseases based on patient symptoms and connects them with hospitals. To enhance the solution, they are securing technologies to provide accurate disease prediction information to symptomatic individuals based on AI and big data technology, as well as technologies to increase the accuracy of disease prediction based on medical history, biological information, and more. Swallaby Inc. (CEO Jung Hae-kwon) has developed AI-based technology using LifeLog (user activity and biological information) to monitor users' health status in real-time and provide immediate health information to users. Thus, technological development for smart hospitals and patient management solutions is active.

In addition, iDoctorCare Co., Ltd. (CEO Kim Min-seung, Lee Ho-ik) provides non-face-to-face medical services through "Soldoc" (dr.soldoc.co.kr). Soldoc offers non-face-to-face reservations, consultations, and digital prescription solutions. Through the platform, patients can easily make hospital reservations, payments, and receive non-face-to-face consultations and prescriptions via mobile devices. Soldoc aims to provide regular and meticulous medical consultations and prescriptions for chronic diseases requiring regular treatment and prescription medication.

Chamyaksa Co., Ltd. (CEO Kim Byung-joo) is conducting business as a Smart Pharmacy Platform through B2B2C. The Chamyaksa platform allows patients to receive personalized medication and provides pharmacy management solutions to pharmacies. Chamyaksa plans to further enhance its platform to include a wide range of health functional foods commonly used in pharmacies, in addition to the current 20 products.

Since 2020, the government has been actively supporting the development of leading models for smart hospitals based on digital technology. In 2021, they supported the "Patient Sensory" field, focusing on enhancing patient safety, and in 2022, they supported the "Patient-Centered Communication" field to promote understanding and communication from the perspectives of patients and their guardians. This year, policy support for "Patient Safety Environment" is also active, focusing on creating a safe environment for smart medication, medical staff education and training, and smart hospital environment management.
