Despite overall stagnation in smartphone sales, shipments of the S24 significantly exceeded those of its predecessor, the Galaxy S23. Google has also implemented on-device AI in its Pixel 8, and Chinese manufacturers such as Xiaomi are rapidly following suit. Additionally, the rise of AI PCs, which embed NPUs (Neural Processing Units) into PCs to enable on-device AI for work environments, is expanding this trend. Unlike smartphones, AI PCs are optimized for productivity, and on-device AI is helping improve workplace efficiency. This signals that the integration of on-device AI into our electronic devices is no longer a distant future, but an imminent reality.

The company successfully secured seed investment (undisclosed amount) based on its proprietary technology. ZETIC.AI plans to utilize the funding to expand its engineering teams, including Android/iOS service developers and AI engineers, and is preparing to enter the global market.

Meanwhile, the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST)—led by Professor Daeyoung Kim (School of Computing)—has been working on serverless computing environments enhanced with GPU virtualization, enabling more efficient use of GPU resources. These examples show how Korea’s academia, industry, and research institutes are advancing the frontier of on-device AI technology.

Government support for advanced on-device AI development is expected to expand further.
According to the BLT Patent & Law Research Center, “On-device AI represents a major opportunity for companies.” The firm also noted that “Securing intellectual property related to computing infrastructure and resource optimization for on-device AI will be a critical strategic move.”
