AI CCTV technology for measuring fine dust is attracting increasing attention. Traditionally, fine dust information has been provided based on data collected from air quality monitoring stations. However, this approach has limitations because it cannot accurately reflect air quality in people's actual living environments. In particular, in geographically large areas, the limited number of monitoring stations makes it difficult to accurately assess fine dust conditions in specific locations. To address this problem, AI CCTV technology has emerged.

AI CCTV-based fine dust monitoring technology analyzes airborne particulate matter in real time using image data collected by CCTV cameras. The technology processes data through either AI systems embedded within CCTV devices or computer vision technologies integrated into centralized information processing systems. Computer vision is a technology that uses artificial intelligence to recognize, track, and analyze specific objects within images or video footage. AI CCTV can detect not only fine dust concentrations but also various environmental factors, analyzing patterns to provide more accurate environmental data.

AI CCTV technology can be applied across various fields. It can detect and analyze the movement of specific objects or people in real time within video footage. In particular, it contributes significantly to urban safety and crime prevention by enabling immediate responses to accidents and criminal activities. Furthermore, it can detect sudden threats such as terrorist attacks or explosive devices, playing an essential role in building a flexible public safety system capable of responding to unexpected hazards.

Korean companies are also actively developing AI CCTV technologies. One notable company is DeepVisions Co., Ltd. (CEO: Bongsoo Kang). DeepVisions developed Vision Plus, an AI solution capable of measuring fine dust using existing CCTV infrastructure. In addition, by combining CCTV video analysis technology with its fine dust monitoring solution, the company developed a system capable of measuring and reducing fugitive dust generated at construction sites in real time. In recognition of its technological capabilities, DeepVisions successfully secured Pre-Series A investment (KRW 600 million). Based on this investment, the company plans to enhance its three-dimensional fine dust monitoring and forecasting systems while expanding into overseas markets.

In addition, Sales System Co., Ltd. developed a vehicle emission and fine dust monitoring system using CCTV image analysis technology. This technology enables real-time monitoring of mobile pollution sources as well as the measurement of emission levels. Global Telecom Co., Ltd. also developed a CCTV-based fine dust monitoring technology capable of generating real-time fine dust measurements and forecasting data. As such, companies are actively advancing technologies in this field.

The BLT Research Center stated, “AI CCTV-related technologies are expected to create new business opportunities for companies.” It further added, “Securing intellectual property rights for various AI CCTV-related technologies is expected to be an effective strategy.”
